Gender Chip Reaches Out @ SWE Regional Conferences

For the first two weekends in March, the Gender Chip Project led successful workshops at two SWE Regional Conferences -- Region A in Reno and Region E in Richmond. Click to hear an interview from Richmond and see the group picture from Reno.

Both successful workshops encouraged much dialog among participants. For many of the young women, the concerns of the young women featured in the film -- about balancing work and family -- resonated with their own decisions. Fortunately, more seasoned SWE professionals were in the workshop to share their story of balancing both career and family. Here's one woman's story as she balanced motherhood and engineering:

As a result of the workshops, we hope to take the Gender Chip Project to the National SWE conference in Baltimore next fall.

January IGNITE Event a Success!

On Saturday, January 12, 2008, Carola Dopps coordinated a very successful event for IGNITE using the Gender Chip film and subsequent panel discussion to illustrate the challenges for young women exploring the STEM fields.

<!--break-->Carola reported back that many of the participants were excited about the Gender Chip Project and hoped to bring the film into their schools. In addition to the Gender Chip film (of course :), the event’s highlight was the keynote by U.S. Maria Cantwell who shared her personal techie experiences working for RealNetworks.
